William 'Bill' Olaf Chalmers (named after his grandfathers), 78, died Wednesday 05/03/2017 at a hospital in Craig, Colorado after a long illness. Funeral Arrangements have taken place under the direction of Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home in Choteau, MT.
Bill was born in Choteau Montana on March 31, 1939 to John and Dana (Forseth) Chalmers. He was raised on the farm his great grandfather homesteaded. He attend the Burton School and graduated from Choteau High School. He attended Montana State University earning a degree in secondary education and went on to teach mathematics in Chester, Montana and Choteau, Montana.
Bill served in the air national guard and worked construction on highway 2 on the south side of Glacier Park after the flood of 1964.
In the early 1970's he took over the family farm from his father, which his Grandfather, William Chalmers homesteaded. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Choteau.
He spent many hours leveling his fields as the earth was his canvas. He collected rocks and was fascinated at the many land formations on God's earth. He was a devoted father and grandfather passing on the love of the land and cattle.
Survivors include his daughter Kaylene (Kal) Strutz of Great Falls and his son, Bryan (Michele) Chalmers of Missoula; his sisters Joann (John) Amend of Bozeman, MT, and Donna (Mike) Ferris Columbus, GA; nine grandchildren and two great grandsons.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two twin brothers.
Services are planned for June 3 with burial at the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery (Farmington Cemetery) at 1:00pm, Funeral Services will be at Choteau, Trinity Lutheran Church at 2:30pm, with a light reception to follow.
In honor of Bill's personality please wear color to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers you may bring a small, pretty rock to the funeral which will be placed next to Bill at his rest.
