Virginia Abbott

March 16, 1937 — March 15, 2024

Retired bank worker Virginia Arlene Abbott, 86, died March 15, 2024, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, one day before her 87th birthday. A memorial service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Choteau on March 27 at 11 a.m.

Ginny was born in Vinon, Iowa, on March 16, 1937, to John Henry and Margaret Geiken Potthoff. She married Sherman Abbott in June 1955, and they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary last year.

Ginny and Sherm moved to Great Falls when Sherm was assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base in 1958. She spent her entire 33-year working career at Norwest Bank in

Great Falls. Sherm and Ginny retired in 1992 and relocated to their home northwest of Choteau where they have spent many wonderful years enjoying the mountain life.

Year in and year out, Ginny organized and hosted the annual Teton Canyon picnic, always welcoming the newcomers to the neighborhood. She also organized the annual

Teton Canyon Road clean-up. She will be missed by her Teton Canyon neighbors and by many others.

Ginny is survived by her husband, Sherman; her sister, Leone Hall; her brothers, Walter and John Potthoff; and her nephew, Bill Coberly of Vermont. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernadine Rhinehart and Evelyn Kennedy.

Frontier Funeral Home of Choteau is handling arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
