Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at the Choteau United Methodist Church for Robert T. "Ted" Cooney, age 73, of Choteau, MT, who died Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the Teton Medical Center in Choteau from natural causes. Cremation has taken place and interment of his cremated remains, with military honors, will be in the Choteau Cemetery under the direction of Gorder Jensen Funeral Home.
Ted was born April 17, 1939 in Helena, MT, the son of Robert F. and Carol (Wells) Cooney. He was raised and educated in Helena, MT, attended the University of Montana-Missoula and then received a Ph D in Marine Science from the University of Washington. Ted was a veteran of the US Navy and a retired Professor of Marine Science at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
He was married to Jacquelyn King on September 1, 1960, in Helena, MT. They moved to Choteau in 1999 from Fairbanks, AK. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Association of Applied Sciences (AAAS). He was an excellent vocalist and provided the community with much enjoyment.
Ted is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn of the home; his mother: Carol Cooney of Choteau, MT; children: Michael (Iva) Cooney of Moose Pass, AK, Kim Cooney of Homer, AK, and Kurtis Cooney of Eagle River, AK; and a granddaughter: Hana Cooney of Moose Pass, AK.
He was preceded in death by his father, and two sisters: Carol Kathleen "Kay" Peterson and Jean Roberts.
