Peter D. Buckley, 78, of Augusta, passed away surrounded by his family on October 10, 2013, in Great Falls, Montana.
Born in County Cork, Ireland on March 7, 1935, Peter immigrated to the United States in 1950 at the age of 15. After living on his uncle's ranch in Wyoming, working sheep and herding cows, he turned to construction. His first job was as foreman building the hospital in Thermopolis before moving to Hardin, MT, where he was foreman on the construction of the Hardin high school. He built many homes on the reservation before coming to Augusta, MT. After working for the Soap Creek Cattle Co., he built houses, ran heavy machinery and eventually set up a woodworking shop. Pete's handy work can be seen in the furniture and cabinets in houses all over the area. In 1995 Pete married Barbara (Jody) Young. Together they made a wonderful life traveling the country, gopher hunting, woodworking and playing cribbage.
He is survived by wife and sweetheart " Little Jody"; Pete's children Rita, Shane, and John, and grandchildren Shane Thomas, John Tanner, Mandy, and Michael; Jody's children Christi Cuffe (Matt) and Dale Young (Sheila) and grandchildren, Mac and Breezi Cuffe and Dylan Young, and numerous friends. We will all miss his unique observations, stories, jokes, and sometimes brutally honest advice.
A celebration of Peter's life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013, starting at 1:00 at the Augusta Youth Center. Please bring stories and memories of Pete to share.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Augusta Volunteer Ambulance Department.
