Paul M. Barrett, of Fairfield, MT, passed away September 28, 2023, at the
age of 94 with his family by his side.
Paul was born February 17, 1929 in Choteau, MT to Edgar and Dorothy
Pye Barrett. He was raised in the Fairfield/Choteau area and graduated
from Choteau Highschool. He joined the Army and proudly served in the
Korean War where he received a Purple Heart. ln 1953, he married a
young nurse from North Dakota named Patricia Ziegler. For 32 years they
raised their three children on a cattle ranch on Dupuyer Creek near Valier,
MT. Paul sold the ranch in 1987 and purchased another ranch in Hilger, MT.
He resided on this ranch for 26 years before retiring and moving to the
Fairfield Bench in Fairfield, MT.
Paul had many passions and hobbies. ln his spare time, he liked to write
poetry even publishing a book of western stories for his family members.
Welding projects were also another past time and he would spend
countless hours in the shop "tinkering". He created a clothesline for each
family member and a few neighbors, as well as end tables, which will
always be beautiful keepsakes in his memory. Paul always was a builder at
heart and preferred to design and construct functional pieces of equipment
for the ranch operation.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Dave and
Jerry Barrett.
Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia; his children, Rex (Monica)
Barrett of Hilo, Hawaii, Nolan (Deanna) Barrett of Brady, MT and Lindsay
(Rod) Chaska of Baker, MT; his grandchildren, Chance (Ashley) Barrett,
Jace (Michele) Barrett, Abby Chaska and Stonie Tucker, and Riley (Christa)
Chaska; his great grandchildren, Wayd, Bellamee, and Qwynn Barrett,
Zayne Barrett, and Beth Chaska.
All family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with Military
Honors to be held October 9, 2023 at the Choteau, MT Cemetery at 1:00
P.M. A Celebration of Life will be held in June 2024.
