Norma Baker

March 16, 1918 — December 23, 2013

Norma Baker, age 95, a long-time resident of Teton County, Montana died on December 23, 2013 in Boulder, Colorado.



Her funeral will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, December 28, 1913 at the Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home in Choteau with burial in the Choteau Cemetery.



Norma was born in 1918 in Choteau, the daughter of Grace and Ernest Black. The family homesteaded in Teton County and Norma went to country schools before graduating from Choteau High School in 1936. Norma moved to Spokane, Washington where she graduated from Kinman Business University. She was a past member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Norma worked for General Mills, rising to the position of Assistant Sales Manager of the Grocery Products Division in both Spokane and Great Falls.



In 1946, Norma married Sid Hanson and they moved to the San Francisco area. After Norma's father passed away, they returned to Montana and took over the family farm. They had a daughter, Sandra, born in 1952. Sid died in 1971.



In 1973, Norma married John Baker and they ranched and farmed until retiring in the fall of 1992. John passed away December, 1998. For years, Norma was active in the Choteau community. She and her mother helped found the local Senior Citizens organization and Norma was one of the first Commissioner-appointed members of the Teton County Council on Aging. She also volunteered at the Long Term Care Unit at Teton Memorial Hospital.



Norma enjoyed entertaining. Her friends knew they were always welcome to drop by for coffee and cookies.



In 2008, Norma moved to Boulder, Colorado to be close to her daughter.



She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Marvin Straus of Boulder, Colorado.



In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
