Mildred (Millie) Mergenthal Bradford, age 92, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 in Choteau, Montana. She was born on May 4, 1926 in Rolla, North Dakota to Otto and Della Mergenthal, who settled in Montana when she was a young child. Millie grew up with her brothers, Donald (Donnie) and Raymond, and her sister, Kathleen, and attended public schools in Cut Bank and Fairfield, Montana. She met her husband, Jack Bradford, when her family and the Bradford family were neighbors on the Fairfield Bench. Millie and Jack were married for 69 years before his passing in 2016.
She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Mergenthal Henderson, Roseville, California, and children: Jeff Bradford (Angie), Durant, Florida; Anette Johnson (Mark), Portland, Oregon; Iris Bradford, Choteau, Montana, and Reed Bradford (Gentre), Sugar Land, Texas. She had 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Millie was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and farmed with Jack in Fairfield, mostly raising wheat and barley. She also helped Jack with beekeeping, producing sweet clover honey. Millie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and her faith, family and friends in the community were her greatest sources of happiness. She was a kind, compassionate, hard-working woman with a good sense of humor and a very welcoming home. She was loved and respected by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 1, at 11:00 am at the LDS Church at 295 7th Street South, Fairfield, Montana 59436. A viewing will be at 10:00 am at the same location.
