Jerry Michael Kirkhorn, 87, went home to the Lord on August l, 2023, early in the morning, which is so fitting because he loved early mornings. He was survived by his wife, Carol; son, John (Angie); two daughters, Gaylene (Mark) and Valerie (Lee); nine grandchildren; and five great-grandkids.
Jerry was born on June 30, 1936, in Wolverton, Minnesota, To Minnie Jorgenson and Clifton Kirkhorn. As a young teenager, he loved cars. Jerry spent hours taking them apart and putting them back together. In high school, he worked at a local garage as an apprentice to the Senior Mechanic. Jerry also loved his country, so he enlisted in The Air Force when he came of age. He served his time overseas in Japan as an air traffic controller. After serving in the military, he was eager to leave the Midwest. He hopped between a few states before landing in sunny southern California. There, he met his wife, carol Havens, and had three beautiful children: John, Gaylene, and Valerie. While raising his kids in apple valley, he had His own garage and quickly became the town's mechanic. In 2000 Jerry moved to Fairfield, Montana, to be close to his brother, Keith, and his mom, Minnie. Fairfield quickly
became his beloved forever home. He soon retired and lived a quiet life, keeping the title of the "town's Mechanic." He enjoyed working on all the farm equipment and making lifelong friends. His greatest loves were his wife, kids, grandkids, great grandkids, his guitar, nature, And, of course, cars!
Memorial service will be held Tuesday August 8, 2023, at United Church of Christ, Fairfield, MT.
