James "Jim" Ross, passed away on October 8, 2023, at the age of 77. He was born on April 12, 1946, to proud parents John Ross and Ina (Wolfinbarger) Vigan, marking the beginning of a life filled with adventure, achievement, and an unyielding love for family and the great outdoors.
Jim's journey through life took him on a remarkable path. Being born in California his family returned to Choteau, Montana where he would spend his school years. It was there that he began to nurture his love for the natural world, a passion that would shape the rest of his life. Jim later ventured to Bellevue, Washington, before eventually returning to the embrace of Choteau, the place that held a special spot in his heart.
Jim's dedication to serving his country was evident when he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he displayed unwavering commitment and courage. His service to his nation was a testament to his deep sense of duty and patriotism.
One of Jim's proudest achievements was becoming the World Champion in Archery in 1986. His remarkable skill with a bow and arrow brought him numerous accolades and the admiration of his peers. Jim's dedication and passion for archery inspired others, and he served as a role model to aspiring archers around the world.
Beyond his accomplishments, Jim was known for his love of the outdoors. He had a natural affinity for the wilderness and found solace in the beauty of nature. Fishing, camping, and hunting were among his favorite activities, and he cherished the moments spent in the company of family and friends in the great outdoors. His enthusiasm for these pursuits was infectious, and he shared his knowledge and love for nature with those fortunate enough to accompany him on his adventures.
Jim had an exceptional talent for culinary arts and was renowned for his skills in the kitchen. He enjoyed cooking and canning, creating mouthwatering dishes that brought joy to the hearts and stomachs of those he loved. His kitchen was a place of warmth and laughter, where the delicious aroma of his cooking welcomed all who entered.
One of Jim's simple pleasures in life was going on long drives to explore the countryside. Whether it was a leisurely drive through the mountains or a spontaneous road trip, he relished the freedom of the open road and the beauty of the world passing by his window. Jim also had a soft spot for cats and shared his home with many feline companions over the years.
Above all, Jim cherished his family. He was a loving husband to his wife, a devoted father to his children, and a doting grandfather to his grandchild. His family was the center of his universe, and he showered them with love, support, and wisdom.
In his passing, Jim leaves behind son, Michael; daughter, Becky; brothers John and David; sisters Donna and Pam; and grandson Jacob.
Jim was preceded in death by wife, Sherry and son, Jimmy Ross Jr.; daughter, Shelly Ross.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held in Darby, MT May 11, 2024.
