Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 26, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Choteau for Irene "Chris" McClue, who died Friday, May 11, 2012 from natural causes. She was 90 years young. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorder Jensen Funeral Home of Choteau. Interment of her cremated remains will be in the Choteau Cemetery.
Chris was born January 16, 1922 in Harlem, MT, the daughter of Christ and Selma (Wallin) Christiansen. She graduated from Hogeland High School in 1939 and from Montana State University with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing in 1944. She married Barney McClue on February 1, 1947 in Helena, MT. Chris wanted to be a Navy Nurse, but her instructors encouraged her to teach nursing so she taught for a year. When WWII was over she worked at the Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls, MT, with some of that time as an office nurse for Dr Wolgamott. Chris then moved to Choteau, working for a short time as Dr McAuley's office nurse, then "retiring" from nursing to help Barney operate the Choteau Bakery for 28 years. There are still no cinnamon rolls, maple bars, or bread to match theirs!
After their retirement, Chris worked at the Teton Nursing Home for 7 years, taking care of her Mom until she passed away in 1989 at almost 100 years old. Chris and Barney then traveled to Hawaii, took a Caribbean Cruise, and drove to Branson, Missouri, and saw the fall colors of the New England states. They loved visiting her sister Helen in Sun City, AZ, sitting on their deck and atrium, and visiting the Billmayer farm near Hogeland. She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Choteau, the W.E.L.A., and was a member of Dorcas Circle. Chris enjoyed Rosemal painting, playing the organ, ceramics, and most importantly spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Chris was a model of grace and kindness to all. She was our angel on earth. She never said an unkind word and had the most gentle touch you could ever imagine. Even when she lost her eyesight fifteen years ago, Chris didn't complain.
Chris is survived by her children: Diane (Bill) Jones of Billings, MT, and Danny (Carol) McClue of Corvallis, MT: a sister, Helen (Jim) Billmayer of Hogeland, MT: 5 grandchildren, Travis (Angie) Kennedy, Shandele (Larry) Wild, Sarah (Jason) Ekin, Carrie(Mike) Willett, and Mark (fiancee Holly) McClue: 4 great grandchildren, Conner and Dawsyn Ekin, Brady Wild, Porter Kennedy: niece Linda Petrie, and nephews Gene, Larry, and Mark Billmayer: sister-in-law Janiece McCready, Seattle: and Julian Hansen, California, a very special friend of the family.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Barney, and a great granddaughter, Kayla Marie Wild.
Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Teton Nursing Home, Skyline, Lodge, or Teton Medical Center.
