Hugh Neill

August 13, 1924 — September 9, 2015

Hugh W. Neill, age 91 passed away on Sept. 9, 2015 in Choteau, Montana.

He grew up on the family farm, and enlisted in the Army with his twin brother, after graduating from high school in Windham, Montana. They both served as medics, in the Army Infantry in Northern Africa and Italy during WWII.

He married Lurene Anderson in December 1945 and graduated from Rocky Mountain College with a B. S. Degree in 1950.

He spent many years was an educator teaching a variety of levels and subjects, but mostly high school sciences in Montana schools including Windham, Conrad and Dutton.

He was very athletic and enjoyed many sports and coaching basketball. He was also a traveling salesman.

He loved his family, the outdoors (especially camping, fishing and hunting), making clocks, and telling stories about his life experiences.

His military service was very important to him and he attended Army reunions with his wife, son or grandson, Rich. His family is grateful for his long life and have many loving memories of him.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Lurene, his sister Maxine Minor of Havre, his children Christine Proff (Alan), Janis McRae (Jerry) and Richard Neill (Angie) all of Dutton, his grandchildren Rich Proff (Andrea), Melisa McRae, Brian and Kevin Neill, and his great grandchildren Riley and Jacob Proff, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorene and John Neill, his brothers Eddie, Donald and his identical twin brother Howard.

A memorial service for Hugh will be held 2 p.m. on September 26 at the Dutton Methodist Church. Burial service in Stanford will be a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Disabled Vets of America and The Wounded Warrior Project.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorder Jensen Funeral Home.
