Helen McCauley

Helen Leon Yeager McCauley passed away on August 6, 2024, at Teton Peak with family by her side. She was 87 at the time of her passing. Helen was born September 22, 1936, in Choteau to Wilbur and Rosella Bjork Yeager. Her younger brother Harley joined the family the following year They resided at Choteau for about 10 years before moving to the Bremerton WA area and except for a short time at Grand Coulee WA remained in the Bremerton area. The family returned to Choteau and Helen attended Choteau High School her sophomore thru Senior years. She married Bill McCauley after graduation in 1954. They had 3 children Lee, Nancy and Brad. Bill and Helen remained in Choteau until 1978.

Helen was a stay-at-home mom that babysat and knitted beautiful sweaters for people. She worked at JC Penney's and then as a receptionist for the Hanusa Agency. In 1978 Bill purchased the Cut Bank Building Service. Helen worked there by his side until they retired. She was a wonderful seamstress and was always doing needlepoint or embroidery or some craft, so she loved having the craft section at the store. Helen loved to play bridge but finally quit when she decided she was too competitive. She and Bill followed the kids in their activities. Helen was a cub scout den mother, a Jayceen, in Rebekahs and she served on the library board in Choteau She loved her grandkids and great grandkids and followed them as well. Helen and Bill travelled as much as they could. When memory problems became an issue she would write lists of her grandkids and great grandkids names. As she struggled with her memory she shared stories of Bremerton and life with the Yeager and Bjork cousins She was well cared for at Beehive homes and Teton Peak after Bills death in 2020 She will always be remembered for her kindness and her wonderful smile.

She is survived by her children Lee McCauley (Carla) of Texas, Nancy Gunderson (Conrad) of Choteau and Brad McCauley (Jamie) of Texas. Eight grandchildren York (Kim) McCauley, Linsay (Adam) Earle, Shane (Lisa) Gunderson, Michelle (James) Daw, Lucas(Dawn)Gunderson, Hannah (Jason) Halverson, Connor McCauley and Delany McCauley ,18 great grandchildren, brother Harley (Leslie) Yeager, nephew Michael Yeager, niece Vicky Yeager Carlson, Aunt Doris Bjork and numerous Yeager and Bjork cousins. Helen Yeager McCauley was proceeded in death by parents Wilbur and Rosella Yeager and husband William L. McCauley. A celebration of life at The Living Word Church, Choteau, MT will be held on Monday August 19 at 1:00.
