George Howard Higgins
George Howard Higgins, Age 83, a life-time resident of Teton county Died December 14th 2015 of natural Causes. A celebration of life will be Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 am, at the trinity Lutheran church in Choteau with Pastor Paul Birkeland officiating. A lunch reception will follow the service in the church dining room. Private scattering of ashes will take place next summer at the family ranch. George was born at his maternal grandparent's home in Simms, Montana on October 28th 1932, to George Richard Higgins and Doris lone Hill Higgins. He graduated from Choteau high school in 1952, joined the united Sates Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1955.
George and Helen LorRayne Davison lines were married on March 28th ,1969 in Choteau, Helen survives as well as two daughters and one son: Holli Higgins of Chandler, Arizona ; Beth McCoy (Garth)Of Coutts, Alberta, Canada: Fredrick "Skip Higgins(Betty) of Missoula, Montana: a very special Nephew Robert Bunn (Cynthia) of Bellevue, Washington. Grandchildren are: Cory Cebulla, Traci Brock, Kevin McCoy, Janene Roark, Jordan McCoy, Kayla Borg, Casey and Kyle Higgins, Quentin and Olin Bunn. There are 12 great Grandchildren. George is also survived by his brother Wesley Higgins (Arlene) of Kalispell, Montana and many nieces, nephews and two cousins.
George worked for the Citizen's State Bank for 32 years following his army discharge. He was very active in the Choteau community, serving on various committees and projects for the betterment of Choteau. He was 60 year member of the American Legion C. James Smith post #6; he served the club as commander, Adjutant & Finance Officer. He spear headed ticket sales for the American Legion Rodeo for 30 years. He was a 50 year member of Choteau Masonic lodge #44 AF &AM; he served the lodge as Master and treasurer. He was 50 year member of Fidelity & Olive Chapters order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron several times. He was a member of Kiwanis Club, Boy Scout leader for 10 years and Lions Club Team parent for 12 years. George was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Following his years at the Citizens State Bank, George and Helen operated the family ranch for 25 years. They embraced the Lifestyle; it was as if they had 'come home' again.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Sisters Mary Higgins Baker (Elmer) and Florence Higgins Fenger (Frank).
