Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, Sept. 14th at the Fairfield Community Hall for Elroy Nelsen, age 84, life-long resident of Fairfield who died Thursday, Sept. 6th at Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls from natural causes. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gorder Jensen Funeral Home in Choteau and interment with military honors will be in the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Fairfield.
Elroy was born December 20, 1927 in Great Falls, MT, the son of N. Adolph and Bertha Christine (Matland) Nelsen. He was raised and educated in Fairfield, graduating from high school in 1945. He attended Montana State College in Bozeman for one year.
Elroy was married to Madelon Maurer on March 17, 1951 and was a veteran of the US Army during post WWII. He worked for Sun River Electric for 33 1/2 years retiring a Line Superintendent.
He was a member of the Fairfield Assembly of God Church and active in the Elk Foundation, the NRA and a member of the rifle club. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid photographer.
Elroy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Madelon of Fairfield, sisters-in-law: Mariel Cummins of Great Falls, Neva (George) McRae of Missoula and Betty (Bill) Tift of Camano Island, WA, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
