Dwight Elmer Pulis went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born on August 12, 1938, to Ivan T. and Bessie M. Pulis in Livingston, MT.
Dwight grew up in Livingston with his 2 sisters, where his father was the pastor of Livingston Bible Church, but spent much of his childhood at the family ranch near Wilsall. He graduated from Park High School in 1957 and went on to attend Westmont College, graduating in 1962, and then from Fuller Seminary in 1965.
After graduating, Dwight served as interim pastor in Onalaska, WA and Whitehall, MT. Later on, Dwight also ministered at Buffalo, MT, a nearly 220 mile round trip from home. He enjoyed and juggled ranching during the week and preaching on Sundays. During this time, he met the love of his life, Susan Rankin, his soulmate, for over 52 years. Sue had always hoped to be a pastor's or rancher's wife, and she got both in Dwight. Having a Sunday chauffeur on the way to church gave him time to put the finishing touches on his sermon. After the death of his father and because of a growing family, Dwight transitioned into full time management of the family ranch in Wilsall. He included his family in the day-to-day farm and ranch operations, teaching them a strong work ethic and love for agriculture. Dwight was a loving, wise father to his 3 children, Rachelle, Stephanie, and Michael, and he actively encouraged them in their walk with Jesus, and each of their pursuits in academics, music, and sports.
Dwight enjoyed serving on the Shields Valley School Board and Wilsall Community Church as an elder. He thoroughly enjoyed his family, ranching, and fellowship in his local church and community. In 2014 the decision was made to sell the family ranch in Wilsall. The family then moved to a farm in Choteau, MT where Dwight stepped back and handed the reins to his son Michael, who managed the operation with the help of his wife Sarah. In 2018 Michael tragically passed away and through the heartbreak, Dwight learned the strength the Lord gives for today, and the blessed hope for the future. He believed there was a ministry to be had in prayer, faithfully praying for his kids and grandchildren and always encouraging them to grow in the Lord. He often quoted scripture and encouraged scripture memorization, frequently suggesting sermons and gifting books. Dwight made every effort to be there to encourage and support his kids and grandchildren in their endeavors and momentous occasions and his presence will be greatly missed.
Dwight is survived by his wife Susan Pulis; daughters, Rachelle Pulis and Stephanie (Jason) Brown; sister, Elaine Inabnit; 11 grandchildren: Brady, Gabriella, Ellyce, Levi, Sadie, KJ, Kencia, Ali May, Katelyn, Taylor, Michaela, and 1 great grandchild: Stetson Dwight.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Bessie Pulis; sister, Ruth Carder; and son Michael Pulis.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11 from 6-7:00 p.m. at Frontier Funeral Home in Choteau. Celebration of Dwight's life will be held at Choteau Baptist Church on Saturday, April 12 at 1:00pm. The family is holding a private burial at 11:00 am at the Choteau cemetery.
