Dorothy Payton passed away at the Benefis Teton Medical Center on October 24, 2016. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 29th at 11 a.m. at the Power United Church of Christ. A luncheon will follow.
Dorothy was born in Great Falls on November 12, 1926, to Victoria and Walter Moore. She graduated from Great Falls High in 1944 and the College of Great Falls in 1947.
Dorothy taught English and Spanish at high schools in Power, Red Lodge and Belt. After her children graduated from high school, she taught several years at the New Rockport Hutterite Colony. While teaching at Belt, Dorothy met and married Nolan Payton. They had two children.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sisters, Lois Clement and Violet Olson. She is survived by her daughter Patty Payton, Power, son Scott Payton, Helena, grandson Brent Payton, Helena and granddaughter Jamie Payton, Missoula. Also surviving are brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary and Lucille Payton, Great Falls, brother-in-law Bud Olson, Choteau and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to the Power United Church of Christ or to a memorial of your choice.
Dorothy's family would like to thank the staff at Benefis Teton Medical Center for the wonderful kindness and care given to Dorothy every day she resided there.
